Today 05 May 2026, MEC Mokoena tabled the 2026/27 Budget Vote for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) at Dr. Cingo Secondary School in Kroonstad.

The total budget allocation for CoGTA for the financial year 2026/2027 amounts to R483.5 million

“This budget is a direct response to the call for decisive action to stabilize our municipalities and transform our local economy.” said MEC Mokoena.

While the day featured a joint program with Education, the MEC Mokoena’s  address remained laser-focused on one mission: Ensuring that local government works for the people.

​Key Strategic Pillars from the MEC’s address include amongst others:

* ​Municipal Intervention:

Strengthening governance and service delivery through active Section 139 interventions in Masilonyana, Nala, and Nketoana to restore essential service standards.

* ​Traditional Leadership:

Investing R75.3 million into traditional institutional management, including the construction of residences for principal traditional leaders.

* ​Job Creation:

Supporting 19,500 job opportunities through the Community Works Programme (CWP) to drive local economic development.

* ​Disaster Resilience:

Dedicating R10 million to strengthen municipal disaster management and fire services. MEC Mokoena reiterated that the work to reposition  municipalities in the province requires political will and the buy in from all stakeholders to fast track  service delivery.
