IMBIZO FOCUS WEEK – WE BELONG, WE CARE, WE SERVE
The 8th National Imbizo Focus Week held on the 13th of July 2018 in Harrismith under the theme “Together we move South Africa forward”. The purpose of this Imbizo was to urge all community members to engage with Government and its leaders about issues facing them. This allowed the government in partnership with the community to hold hands in finding possible solutions to the identified problems.
The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr. Oupa Khoabane, along side the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, lead engagements with the community of Harrismith with regard to challenges such as gender based violence, prostitution and human trafficking.
With an unemployment rate of 46%, the community of Harrismith has insisted that the high rate of prostitution is a direct reflection of socio-economic situation in the area. The Minister has assigned the MEC to lead talks on possible solutions, encourage skills development and decrease unemployment within the district.
