The Free State Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, along side the Free State House of Traditional Leaders was honored to host a delegation from the Association of Traditional Chiefs of Niger from 30th to 31 July 2018. The purpose of this visit was to discuss a possible partnership that could lead to twinning of cities between the local municipalities of Lejweleputswa and rural and urban municipalities of Niger. Lejweleputswa District Municipality comprises of Matjhabeng, Nala, Tokologo, Tswelopele and Masilonyane Local Municipalities. These municipalities were preferred due to the similarity of economic resources. Niger municipalities as both mentioned in the Free State depend mainly on mining and agriculture.
The delegation itinerary in the the Free State included a courtesy visit to the Office of the MEC, House of Traditional Leaders and Barolong boo Seleka on their fist day. On the second day of their visit the Traditional Chiefs of Niger traveled to Qwaqwa to pay their respects to the Mopeli Royal Family following the passing of Morena e Moholo wa Bakoena, Morena Thokoana Mopeli.
